Demonstrate a RISE model for meaningful response I think Troy Carter’s 95/5 management style is a great idea. It keeps both of them happy. It’s working for them. When I worked with an artist, in my mind I had 100% of the creativity as the producer. I had the vision for the entire project. Then reality set in and the artist wanted creative input. I never thought about that. So, I had to learn that the artist also had a vision. As a manager, I was in charge of everything except I wasn’t the engineer. I was in charge of all the finances and setting everything up. For me, I would say 50/50. But 95/5 works for Troy Carter and Lady Gaga. I feel he should have a more creative say, but he seems happy with the amount of say that he has, and so does she. I see Troi as already having her own vision of what she wants to do. A 95/5 might work with her. Yes, I noticed a change of direction with Lady Gaga when she was working with Tony Bennett in 2001, and when she was working with Bradley Cooper in 2018. I noticed a change in her image. It’s almost like she wanted to be taken more seriously. The pop princess was gone, the clothing was different, and her style changed from pop clothing to more elegant clothing. Yes, the 95/5 situation gave her more creative control and she wants to have music that is for an older audience. They mentioned looking for a bigger platform, how can they create a new experience for the fans, meeting with new young entrepreneurs to see who’s next, the amount of traffic they’re responsible for on these platforms and you have to earn it before you can ask for it. They speak of technology and bigger platforms that work. and launching an Artist’s platform. Their biggest dream is that the artist can work on their vision 100% and that the artist never has to worry about the financials. It makes the managers want to work harder. The thing that I can see is where I wanted to have 100% creativity and vision control, the managers want the artists to have 100% creativity and vision control. My opinion is that Scooter is absolutely right. I personally would attend every technology-oriented conference. To be on the cutting edge as a manager, you must have actual facts and be up on everything current. To stay current and futuristic, the resources you should utilize are continue to use steaming and keep an ear open to what the fans want. Use social media for research use your computer, watch videos, and constantly educate yourself with facts. I think the next frontier in the technology industry is 3D printing for merchandise. I see it advertised all over the internet, especially on YouTube and tictok. I think it’s really cool and will increase merchandise sales. The artist’s picture or the band’s picture in 3D on everything. I haven’t discussed it yet, but I think it’s great for all memorabilia. REFERENCES Zimmerman, R. (2023, July 6). The music industry is a dynamic and ever-evolving field, where artists and managers continually seek innovative approaches to navigate the changing landscape. One such approach that has garnered attention is Troy Carter’s 95/5 management style. This essay explores the impact of this style, its effectiveness in balancing creativity between artists and managers, and how it reflects the shifting dynamics in the music industry.
Troy Carter’s management style emphasizes giving artists a substantial creative say in their projects. This approach diverges from traditional management styles, where managers often hold more control over artistic decisions. The 95/5 model implies that artists have 95% creative control while managers retain 5%, creating a unique partnership.
One prime example of the 95/5 management style’s success is its application to Lady Gaga’s career. This partnership has allowed Lady Gaga to shape her music and image in transformative ways. Notable shifts, such as her collaborations with Tony Bennett and Bradley Cooper, showcase the positive impact of this approach on artists’ creative expression.
Drawing from personal experience, I initially assumed that, as a producer, I held 100% of the creative vision for a project. However, reality taught me that artists often have their own creative vision. This realization prompted a shift in my approach, advocating for a more balanced collaboration between artists and managers, akin to the 95/5 model.
As a manager, one’s role encompasses various aspects, such as financial management and logistics. The balance of creative control often leans more toward the 50/50 model. However, the 95/5 model’s emphasis on greater artist input demonstrates its effectiveness in achieving a harmonious balance in creativity.
Troy Carter and Lady Gaga’s pursuit of a broader platform and collaborations with young entrepreneurs reflects their forward-thinking mindset. Their emphasis on technology, bigger platforms, and the launch of an artist’s platform indicates their commitment to innovation.
One of the central dreams shared by artists and managers alike is to enable artists to focus 100% on their creative vision without financial concerns. This aspiration motivates managers to work tirelessly to provide artists with the support they need.
Scooter’s commitment to staying updated through technology-oriented conferences underscores the importance of remaining at the forefront of industry trends. Managers must continuously educate themselves and stay informed about emerging technologies.
Leveraging streaming services and social media for research is vital in staying informed about fan preferences and industry trends. These tools enable managers to adapt and stay ahead of the curve.
An exciting trend shaping the music industry’s future is the integration of 3D printing for merchandise. This innovation offers a unique opportunity to enhance the fan experience by creating 3D merchandise featuring artist or band images, potentially increasing merchandise sales and building stronger artist-fan connections.
In conclusion, Troy Carter’s 95/5 management style represents a paradigm shift in the music industry, emphasizing a collaborative approach that empowers artists to shape their creative vision. As the music industry evolves, embracing technology, bigger platforms, and innovative concepts like 3D printing for merchandise, artists and managers must stay current and forward-thinking. This dynamic environment requires adaptability and a commitment to embracing change in order to thrive in the ever-evolving world of music.
