ANSWER

Story of Applying Learning at Work

In my recent role as a team leader, I applied a key lesson from my leadership course that emphasized making courageous decisions even when they might be unpopular. We were in the midst of a hiring process to expand our team. Despite the pressure to accommodate the preferences of my team members, I stuck to my decision-making process and thoroughly evaluated each candidate. By doing so, I not only ensured that the best-suited individuals were hired, but I also showcased the importance of sticking to our principles.

Moreover, I confronted a challenging situation when cost-cutting measures became necessary at our plant. Remembering the course’s teachings, I delved into extensive research to identify which employees should be let go while minimizing the impact on our team’s efficiency. This required difficult choices, but I knew it was essential for the greater good of the organization. Through these experiences, I learned that leaders must possess the courage to stand by their choices, especially when they align with the well-being of the team and company.

Personal Growth as a Leader

Over the course of my leadership term, I’ve grown significantly as a leader by honing my transformational leadership skills. One area of notable improvement has been in my ability to encourage curiosity and skepticism within the team. By consistently posing thought-provoking questions during our meetings, I’ve fostered an environment where team members are more likely to challenge assumptions and provide well-reasoned ideas. This approach has led to more comprehensive decision-making and innovation within the team.

Areas of Improvement in Transformational Leadership

While practicing transformational leadership, I’ve recognized an area that could benefit from improvement – the balance between pushing for curiosity and allowing space for creativity to flourish. At times, my probing questions might unintentionally stifle unconventional ideas by demanding immediate answers or overanalyzing them. Moving forward, I aim to strike a balance that encourages critical thinking without dampening the imaginative spirit of my team members.
