Health Organization Evaluation
Banner Health
Introduction
Banner Health Network is a medical network for private and Medicare health plans. It is operational in 28 health care facilities, and it has various specialized clinics in six states in the US. These six primary states include California, Arizona, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, and Nevada. Banner Health has its headquarters in Arizona, Phoenix, and it is one of America’s most effective health systems. The paper’s main aim is to assess how Banner Health is ready in terms of meeting the health care needs of American citizens in the coming few years.
Banner Health Description
Banner Health has a mission of providing quality care to the citizens of America. In addition to this, the network’s management has created a mission and a vision statement. These guide the company’s every operation. In every facility of Banner Health, the essential thing is professionalism, and it has the goal of nurturing health care practitioners whose intention is changing the health care systems. It is vital to note that there are various services that Banner Health offers to the citizens (Cairns, Bollinger & Garcia, 2017). These services may include home care, family clinics, medical equipment services, and a nursing registry. Apart from the necessary medical and emergency services that they provide, this organization’s hospitals also offer specialized services like heat cars, birth deliveries, rehabilitation services, organ transplants, and behavioral health services. The main programs provided by Banner Health are heart care, critical care, emergency medicine, medical imaging, neurosciences, rehabilitation services, and surgery, to mention a few.
As a leading non-profit health organization in the United States, Banner Health commits to the primary mission of helping people have easy access to health care. If this happens, people in the United States get the opportunity to live their lives in a better and safer way. Instead of the network focusing on generating profits as most organizations do, Banner Health focuses on providing health care services to American communities. Therefore, Banner Health reinvests every dollar it earns into hospital technologies and beds, existing equipment and facilities maintenance, paying their employees, and new and better physician services.
Overall Readiness of Banner Health
As time passes, things have changed in health care, and there are more developed technologies, and the same applies to Banner Health. Over the past few years, Banner Health has moved to adopt reimbursement that is more value-based to meet citizens’ needs in the coming decade. The new models are more focused on rewarding value instead of the volume. It is also focused on moving a suitable percentage of clinical and financial risks from the organization’s payers to their providers (Kuhn & Lehn, 2015). In doing so, they can reduce costs, lead care quality improvements, and increase the organization’s efficiency. The implemented programs focus more on the quality of care provided, value, efficiencies, population health management tactics, and members’ engagement. In healthcare facilities and organizations, patients are the essential people. For that reason, most healthcare organizations today are shifting from volume and focusing more on value. For example, Banner Health’s amount is precipitated by the need to minimize health care costs. As it focuses on reducing the costs, it still focuses on making various improvements in health outcomes while pursuing quality improvement.
In both outside and inside of hospital settings, the cost of care provided is continuously growing. As a result, today, sometimes, it accounts for Medicare expenses portions. Therefore, healthcare systems are obligated to find ways to deliver practical, timely, consistent, reliable, and safe care to patients. For organizations that are more focused on the health of the population like Banner Health, they must focus on changing organizations’ transactional structure (Kuhn & Lehn, 2015). They should also change their mentality of having ore payments in case they do more. They should not focus on such matters because it is vital always to remember that the organization’s responsibility is to provide total care for their patients. For Banner Health to facilitate change from volume to value, they can take various actions. For example, they can create different Imaginarium, which can be used as innovating testing sites for brilliant ideas. The ideas may include multiple ways of offering services to patients to meet their needs.
A strategic plan to address issues about network growth, nurse staffing, resource management, and patient satisfaction
As the needs of health care increases, Banner Health has a fundamental goal of creating new facilities to help them respond to both the future and current health care needs of American citizens. The organization has the intention of constructing comprehensive and productive medical centers. It also intends to provide accessible, convenient care to families and patients. In America, different states and regions are fast-growing, and Banner Health wants to ensure that all its members and patients have easy access to care whenever they are in need.
In terms of network growth, the organization has a strategic plan of expanding its operations. Today, there is a constant increment in health care services demand, and as a result, Banner Health has an urge to expand and increase more branches. If they set other units in other states, they will help them grow a more robust network in health care. The expansion will also help them reach and provide their services to many patients. In terms of nurse staffing, the organization has implemented an approach intended to boost and facilitate efficient health care deliveries (Makary, 2013). The organization’s management recognizes that nursing staff is an essential aspect in the delivery of care and patient outcome in every facility. Nurses are the root of exceptional patient care, and it is for that reason, this organization accepts and appreciates their role. In their aim to promote patients’ satisfaction, Banner Health is providing their patients with new schemes to help share their experience. For example, to enable possible interactions between the physicians and their patients, the organization has implemented telemedicine. Such technologies play an essential role in the promotion of patient satisfaction. The Banner Health organization’s management is focused on providing the best possible care to their patients at reduced costs.
Any current or potential issues within the organizational culture and discuss how these issues may affect the strategic plan.
Banner Health believes that for an organization to deliver to their patients on its mission, success depends on the organization’s leaders. Therefore, their organizational culture gives room for many of their staff members to be eliminated from the decision-making process. As a result, it limits strategic plan implementation. Corporate culture affects an organization’s chosen strategy, as there are various values and beliefs that all staff members should follow. It is vital to note that such culture has a lot of influence on the organization’s daily operations, and in most cases, it influences what is or not that is accepted (Naranjo-Valencia et al., 2011). Despite their culture that an organization’s success depends on the leaders, Banner Health needs to consider all employees’ inclusion if they implement the strategic plan. It is an organization’s aim, and it would be better if every staff member would be involved so that they could weigh in various options.
Propose a theory or model that could be used to support the implementation of the strategic plan for Banner Health. Explain why this theory or model is best
The most suitable that could support the implementation of Banner Health’s strategic plan is the goal-based planning model. It is so because, with this model, it prioritizes its focus on the main opportunities and challenges that an organization faces. In this model, the planning team starts by revisiting its mission, vision, and core values. After the visitation, they evaluate and look into an organization’s strengths and weaknesses. Goal-based planning encompasses the team to start with the organization’s goals or the mission statement, and it develops an action plan after which to meet the various organizational goals (Ayers, 2013). By using this model, Banner Health will identify and note down the organization’s goals. After goal identification, it will help the organization develop strategies to help them gain their objectives. It will also help them come up with creative action plans to accomplish their goals.
Conclusion
Over the past few years, there are various changes that Banner Health has made in its strategy to help it remain at the top as one of the most significant health care systems in the US. It has also retained its quality care provided to the citizens of America. Among the changes the organizations have adopted may include the fact that it has migrated to using value-based reimbursement from performance-based to assist them in health care cost minimization. As it does this, there have been improvements in their outcomes in health care. It has succeeded in being in the United States’ health care industry by making various changes in nurse staffing, network growth, resource management, and patient satisfaction.
