Summary Hints:

Only have information that is in the article—don’t add your opinion on the article or the subject, background information, or conclusions you drew from the article.  Additionally, you don’t need to frequently use phrases like “the author said” or “in this article” since everything in the summary will be what the author wrote in that article.

Make sure you are accurately summarizing the article, not distorting or misrepresenting.

Try to have most of the summary in your own words, only quoting when absolutely necessary.

Remember to cite facts, ideas, and quotations from the article.

After the summary, you will do an analysis of the article.  Remember that this is going beyond the facts of the article, but instead making judgments about the article.  Who do you think the audience of the article is?  What is the author’s purpose?  Is that purpose achieved?  How does the author appeal to readers?  Is the information well organized?  What is the thesis?  Is enough evidence given to adequately support the thesis?  Was the research itself done well?  Why or why not?

Just like in the summary, remember to cite all quotations and specific facts you draw from the article and to make sure that all quotations are exact.

 The summary must be a maximum of one page, and the analysis must be at least two full pages.  This is one paper, so only one heading is needed.  

The paper must be double spaced, use 12 pt. Times New Roman, and be in the proper MLA
