Professional Engineering Services

This semester’s project is divided into two efforts. First, and the purpose of this project, is to develop a Request for Professional Engineering Services as an owner/operator of the project proposal. In this effort, your team will procure engineering services related to a project from one of the following possible work assignments in the civil engineering field:

• Structures: Supporting an architect who has designed a new five-floor office building with structural engineering services

It is anticipated that your team will select a project of relevance to your future career from the options of: public sector (e.g., state government agency, county, and/or municipality, etc.), private sector (e.g., professional services consultant and/or contractor, etc.), or non-profit (research institution and/or university, etc.). Regardless of your pursuit, establishing this procurement from an owner/operator perspective, will be the same.

For purposes of this project, consider the following parameters.

• Project descriptions are purposely vague. It will be up to your team to provide context. Choose your location in the Phoenix metro area for the location of the project. Note the responsible municipality and/or state agency related to your project and in your Request for Services.
• Assume the construction value for each of the projects to be between $15 million and $25 million. As a rule of thumb, consider the professional engineering services to represent approximately 10% of this budget.
• PROCUREMENTS will be for professional services only, with follow up construction management and inspection services.
• Research on-line for similar procurements; look at up to five different options, minimum (for this exercise, the more the better).
