Social work licenses in California need to be renewed every two years. The renewal period starts on the first day of the licensee’s birth month.
For Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), 36 CEUs are required for each renewal period. These CEUs should be obtained from approved providers and must be relevant to the practice of clinical social work.
Out of the 36 CEUs required, a minimum of 18 CEUs must be directly related to clinical social work. The remaining 18 CEUs can cover a broader range of social work topics.
For LCSWs, six of the 36 required CEUs must focus on ethics, law, or professional conduct in social work practice.
