4. How will I learn on this module?

Teaching and learning will take place through interactive lectures, blended learning

through asynchronous discussions via Microsoft Teams, group activities (such as

discussions, tutorials and feedback from learning activities), group presentations and

simulated sessions in our Theatre Simulation Suite. It has been acknowledged that

time must be given for focused reading and exploration of different issues introduced

in the taught sessions. The contribution of your own experiences and thoughts is

highly valued for the promotion of shared learning within the group and the

expanded knowledge and experience gained from this.

Inter-professional learning (IPE) is integral to the ODP Award. Much of the content of

the ODP curriculum is common to other health professions. Throughout the

programme you will work on these common areas with students and qualified

practitioners from other professional groups to expand your knowledge of, not only

the subject matter, but the role of these professions in providing patient care. You

will also participate in University IPE activities.

1. 2500-word Reflective account, reflecting on your development over year 2 and

the development of an action plan for year 3 learning. The reflective Account must

be presented in an appropriate scholarly format. This assessment will allow you to

meet module outcome 2.

Web Descriptor In this practice module, you will apply the fundamental skills and knowledge developed in year one to a range of complex situations in the operating department. This will include delivering perioperative care in a range of specialised areas, such as Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Obstetrics, as well as introducing recovery care. You will explore equipment used in specialist areas of anaesthesia and surgery. You will examine policies and procedures for deteriorating patients, and safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. You will develop your knowledge and skills in medicines management and drug administration, drug calculations, Basic Life Support (BLS) and Paediatric Life Support (PLS). You will reflect on your professional and personal development, and how self-awareness and personal values and beliefs impact on patient care. Due to the professional nature of this award, this module is supported by a range of clinical placements
