During my clinical placement in a Long-Term Care (LTC) home in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, I have been assigned to a leadership and administrative role under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Care (ADOC), who is also the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) lead. Although direct care is not part of my current responsibilities, research utilization and evidence-informed practice play a significant role in shaping the quality of care and outcomes within the LTC setting. In this essay, I will discuss how I have integrated research utilization and evidence-informed practice into my practicum experiences.

Utilizing Research in the LTC Placement

Research utilization involves the application of current evidence in healthcare decision-making and practice. Although my role primarily revolves around leadership and administrative tasks, I actively engage with research findings to inform and improve the quality of care provided within the LTC home.

One example of research utilization is the implementation of best practices in infection prevention and control. As the IPAC lead, the ADOC emphasizes the importance of evidence-based guidelines and protocols.
