Although, I think that a debate class or a critical thinking class should be mandatory for every student either in high school or college. If people know how to properly argue the arguments will be productive and informational like they should be rather then more of an egotistical yelling match because people, usually adults, can not see eye to eye. I was taught in junior high on the debate team that I you do not always get to debate the side you are believe in. You debate the topic and the side that is assigned to you. Yet to be able to effectively debate a topic you have to know both sides of the conflict. There is almost always two sides to everything that can be debated. Knowing both sides of the arguments will also help with cross exanimation where you can prove their facts incorrect or state facts that favor for your position on the subject. If we can properly argue or debate a topic there should not be any protests that turn into riots and people potentially dying like Heather Heyer from the University of Virginia.
