On the surface, her medical condition demanded our attention, and our interventions primarily centered around managing her seizures and neurological assessments. However, during a routine conversation, she confided in me about her feelings of isolation and anxiety stemming from her medical condition. It was in that moment that I realized the importance of addressing not just her physical health, but also her emotional and social needs.

This experience was an “aha” moment, a realization that health extends beyond the absence of disease. It underscored the significance of understanding patients as holistic individuals with unique stories, emotions, and challenges.
