The nursing professional plays an important role in the medication administration procedure and patient safety, in maintaining health quality in institutions, mitigating the margin of error and protecting the integrity of the patient to the maximum. For this reason, in their training, methodologies must be used to strengthen the teaching-learning process, accordingly, they must constantly change their methods in search of improvement and offer new tools to have competent professionals who meet the labor and intellectual challenges. The objective: to evaluate the impact of the use of a technological application that promotes self-taught learning, consolidating knowledge acquired in the classroom and that in the future allows quick consultation during the development of the profession, in addition to contributing to the development of self-taught study skills. and continuous training for all nursing staff during their training and graduation. Methodology: mixed-descriptive approach; It began with a first phase for the identification of the most common errors in the administration of medications, a second phase for the construction of a technological application for the nursing student to use in the adult care class with emphasis on the patient in a state of Acute, after application of knowledge pretest, a third phase: application of posttest to know the impact of the application on their learning. Results: they were satisfactory because in general terms the application was accepted, and a significant advance was shown in their knowledge with emphasis on the calculation of doses of drugs such as vasopressors and vasodilators. Conclusion: the impact of the virtual tool is positive in the group of students of the fifth semester subject, in addition, the research promotes the inclusion of technology in the teaching-learning process of nursing subjects and strengthens the autonomous study and thus the competences of knowledge to enable the provision of care adequate and safe practices to the patient who is the pillar of the profession.
What is the main argument of the author or authors in this article?
What other points of view are proposed by the author or authors in this article?
What evidence (data, facts, studies carried out and related, among others…) presented by the author support his arguments?
How reliable is the evidence that the author or authors present to support their arguments? Conclusion or conclusions reached by the author or authors.
The main argument presented by the author in this article is the positive impact of using a technological application in nursing education to enhance self-taught learning, consolidate knowledge acquired in the classroom, and improve medication administration skills. The author emphasizes that nursing professionals play a crucial role in patient safety, and their training should incorporate evolving methodologies to produce competent graduates who can navigate the complexities of the profession.
While the primary argument revolves around the benefits of using a technological application for nursing education, the author also explores several related points of view:
1. Importance of Medication Administration: The author underscores the significance of medication administration in nursing practice and the potential risks associated with errors in this critical aspect of patient care.
2. Self-Taught Learning: The article discusses the importance of fostering self-taught learning skills among nursing students. The technological application is presented as a tool to promote autonomous study and continuous training.
3. Integration of Technology: The author advocates for the inclusion of technology in the teaching-learning process, highlighting its potential to improve nursing education and enhance competency.
The author supports the argument and points of view with evidence from a mixed-descriptive research approach involving multiple phases:
1. Identification of Medication Administration Errors: The research begins with the identification of common errors in medication administration, providing a foundation for the need to improve knowledge and skills in this area.
2. Development of a Technological Application: The second phase involves the construction of a technological application tailored to nursing students, specifically focused on adult care and acute patient scenarios.
3. Pretest and Posttest Assessments: The author uses pretest and posttest assessments to measure the impact of the technological application on nursing students’ learning. The results show a significant improvement in knowledge, particularly in the calculation of drug doses.
The evidence presented by the author appears reliable, as it follows a systematic research approach with clear phases, including the identification of errors, the development of a technology-based solution, and pre- and post-assessment of student learning. However, the article lacks specific details regarding the research methodology, such as sample size and data collection methods, which could affect the assessment of evidence reliability.
The author concludes that the impact of the technological application on nursing education is positive. The tool not only enhances medication administration knowledge and skills but also promotes self-taught learning and continuous training. Furthermore, the research advocates for the integration of technology into nursing education to prepare competent professionals who can provide safe and effective patient care. However, while the evidence presented supports these conclusions, more comprehensive details about the research methodology would strengthen the reliability of these findings.
