This contentious issue raises moral, legal, and ethical considerations surrounding a person’s right to autonomy and the sanctity of human life.

 Opinion on the Issue

In my opinion, the practice of physician-assisted suicide can be viewed as ethical under specific circumstances. I believe that individuals facing unbearable suffering and terminal illnesses should have the right to choose how they want to end their lives, provided stringent safeguards and guidelines are in place to protect against abuse and ensure informed consent.

PRO Side of the Issue

Supporters of physician-assisted suicide argue that it upholds the principle of individual autonomy and dignity. Patients who are terminally ill and suffering unbearably should have the right to decide the timing and manner of their death, especially when their medical condition is irreversible and palliative care is insufficient to alleviate their suffering. Legalizing medical aid in dying allows patients to maintain control over their final moments, preserving their dignity and providing a sense of empowerment during a challenging time.

CON Side of the Issue

Opponents of physician-assisted suicide believe that it undermines the sanctity of life and raises ethical concerns about the potential for abuse. Additionally, strict legal guidelines and oversight should be in place to prevent abuse and protect vulnerable patients.
