Conceptualization

Identify one theory (FROM CSP 638) that you will use in this case conceptualization, particularly one that you are drawn to for any reason (whether it’s pure curiosity, a sense of connection to it, or any other variation). Provide a brief introduction to the theory, with an explanation of the philosophical underpinnings and connected techniques. Be sure to situate the distinctions this theory and other theories, particularly in their social/historical context, philosophical underpinnings, constructions of identity, and how change is understood.

-Once you have identified this, then identify a character from a popular movie/book/TV series as your “client” (examples: Darth Vader, Walter White, Harry Potter, etc.). Be sure to select a character that has a fairly well-developed background story and character identity, as this will greatly support you in completing this assignment.

– In your essay, describe this client as if they are coming to see you for therapy, and describe their presenting problem, necessary background information, and other items deemed important. This description should reflect an intake or some imagined context in which the client is coming to see you. Refer to Gehart’s case conceptualization chapter at the end of the book for further details on what might be necessary. Developing the identity of this character MUST BE situated in the espoused preferred theory for the assignment.

-Clearly describe a treatment plan for this client from the chosen theory. Refer to your book on how you can broadly conceptualize a treatment plan. Please respond in narrative format, describing what you would do (with questions you would ask written out!), in the beginning, middle, and ending phases of treatment. Note that provided examples in texts come from specific theoretical models, so you may have to adjust your language depending on the theory you are using. Shaping your language to your theory is critical in this assignment, and includes interventions, client descriptions, and phases of treatment.

-Feel free to use Gehart’s templates as a GUIDE, but keep in mind to not plagiarize content that she is using. Feel free to be creative in developing this, but please make sure your organization is clear and allows the instructor to track what you are doing, and the distinctions you are making between theories. Again, this needs to be in narrative format, not using the template

8-12 pages, not including title page and references

Utilize five (5) pieces of peer-reviewed additional research to support any client-specific issues that arise in your work. The chosen article/journal/book should be situated within the theory you have selected.
