Due to these many roles, nurses’ have the ability to network between clinical, community, and social organizations. Through many nursing positions nurses are able to influence health outcomes and health care equity (Flaubert, et al., 2021).

Social determinants of health are the conditions and the influences that effect an individual’s health and health outcome. Conditions may include situations such as one’s birth experience, where one is raised, working and/or living conditions, and/or their age, while influences may include financial conditions, organizational/ governmental policies, social customs and racism (CDC, 2022).

Incorporating nursing expertise to applied data to focus on a social determinant of health and health equity in a digital platforms to help improve the health and health equity through a hospital and community situation is performed by nurses on assessment. One example in achieving a health and health equity goal can be seen with the social determinant of limited mobility and transportation issue. When the nurse provides the education and resources in information technology (IT) and telehealth information, this allows for the patient to have communication with health care providers while at home allowing for optimal health and a better health outcome (OASH, 2023).

Working to advance recommendation #6 and to overcome barriers master degree nurses can work on taking leadership roles and become more involved in incorporating nursing knowledge into policy changes. Benson (2022), mentions to build healthier communities, being involved in health-related corporate and other “board, panel, and/or commission jobs is needed by nursing (E66). My question is, what are some health-related board, panel and/or commission jobs” nurses can be apart of to increase their presence and influence?

Nurses are the first to encounter their patients going through medical and possible social related hardships, as well as the ones caring for those needs. Nurses play an invaluable and influential role for those patients through medicine administration, education, and resource allocation. Medical and social determinants are addressed by nurses in hospitals, schools, communities, and outpatient facilities all in an effort toward health and health equity.
