In Week 6 of our course, Tom discusses the concept of a “mastermind group” as a determinant of success or failure. This is a group of like-minded individuals who come together to support and challenge each other’s growth, learning, and success. Tom emphasizes the idea that the people you surround yourself with play a significant role in influencing your outcomes in life. He mentions that you will become the combined average of the five people you spend the most time with.
Tom suggests that we should ideally hang around five people who are where we aspire to be. These individuals should inspire and challenge us to elevate ourselves in three key areas: mindset, behavior, and environment. By surrounding ourselves with people who excel in these areas, we are more likely to experience growth and progress in our own lives.
Reflecting on my own experiences, I believe that I can identify the people with whom I spend most of my time. These could be friends, family members, colleagues, or mentors. These are the individuals who have the potential to influence my mindset, behavior, and environment. It’s important to assess whether these people align with my goals, values, and aspirations.
I believe that by being intentional about the people I associate with, I can create a supportive and growth-oriented environment for myself. Just like Tom mentioned, spending time with individuals who challenge me to think bigger, act with purpose, and create a positive environment can greatly impact my journey towards success. This reflection has encouraged me to evaluate the relationships in my life and ensure that I am surrounding myself with people who inspire and uplift me, ultimately contributing to my personal and professional growth.
