In the first integrative paper, you described what an ideal community would look like to you. You also know what the community where you live OR work OR go to school in looks like today. Through the readings, lectures, discussions, and reflections of this course, you now have some ideas of tools with which to work towards building your ideal community.
Your final presentation and paper have two parts:
You will present a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation in class.
You will also submit a minimum of a 1400-word (5-page) essay to accompany the PowerPoint.
Questions you will present AND write on are:
What are the elements of your ideal community?
Now, describe the real community in which you live, work, or otherwise have a connection today.
Who resides (lives), works, and recreates (socializes) there?
What are the problems and issues?
Why do these problems and issues exist?
How does history explain why this community looks and operates as it does?
What assets exist?
Include an assets-based and/or needs-based map (you can choose one or use both).
Describe how a community development organization would build your ideal community from the current one, using concepts and strategies discussed in class. This portion should be the majority of the paper (2 ½ pages).
How would it use and/or build various kinds of capital in this work?
What are the steps?
Where would the resources come from to build this capital?
Are there laws that would help build this community?
Discuss how a community development organization would interact with different sectors of society (business, nonprofits, government entities) to advance the development.
How does faith (or values) affect the process of community in your example?
The essay in Word has to be 5 pages and in MLA format and not plagiarism, the one for PowerPoint must be the same topic and the one for word and the same questions, only that the one for PowerPoint must have different content.
