1. The styles of art/artists that seemed to have influenced the painting is that he became fascinated with the avant-grade artists working in the Kristiania-Boheme, which was a group of artists interested in disrupting the conservative bourgeoisie. For his painting “The Scream Guy” is that he created five versions of it, which is really interesting since it wasn’t just one that he made.
2. Rodin’s The Age of Bronze criticizes modern man and taps into the European anxieties of mankind in that they were trying to ignore and suppress. The world didn’t like his sculpture since it was really better than other artwork. He wanted to make his sculptures more naturalistic and realistic and people wouldn’t use to seeing that. That’s why he got some bad views about this sculpture.
3. The Fauves receive a negative reaction because the artists would use bright colors for the artwork and art critics were shocked since other artists didn’t use bright colors, but light colors. Henri Matisse was the leader of the Fauvist art style and was inspired by many artists. An example of Fauvism was Andre Derain’s The Boats in the Port of Collioure since he used bright colors for this painting. He probably got a lot of negative reactions about his painting, but it didn’t stop him from making other artwork that was similar to that one.

I. As I observe Edward Munch’s, The Scream, I noticed it is heavily influenced by works of Vincent Van Gogh’s style. Specifically one of his paintings The Nights Café. These paintings are similar as they are capturing a moment of implying abandonment and loss. Both paintings I mentioned express that and are portraits of the human feeling and soul. You can also observe that Munch and Van Gogh had similar painting styles with the choice of colors they both use in paintings. The similarity of how their actual paintings look with the painting techniques they use to create the image makes me deeply believe Munch was inspired by Van Gogh as well.
II. Rodin’s The Age of Bronze is a sculpture that critics the modern man and taps into your European anxieties as the sculpture is representing a vulnerable defeated French man. Rodin, the artist, had fought in the Franco- Prussian War. France saw this war as a huge disappointment and national embarrassment. I believe the artist wanted to depict that this sculpture was a tragedy of mine kind specifically targeting the French, because of the war; not a celebration to mankind. We see this as the sculpture is identified with so many fears and anxieties they were trying to ignore as we see the man without a weapon which presents the sculpture as having a defenseless and insecure feeling.
III. The fauves received negative reactions as all their style characteristics like paint textures, bright color use and the use of canvas surface were seen as uncivilized. For example in Mattisse’s, The Joy Of Life. This art piece presents itself with as many critics would say wild colors, not to add the the daring canvas size. The canvas size as we all have learned was a very critical part of painting back then. Academies stressed only important people deserve big paintings and in this specific painting by Mattisse the people are not known or important, they are just normal nobody’s.
